PROSTATE CANCER – PATIENT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM FEASIBILITY STUDY (Phase 2)

This project was initiated by Drs. Ilie and Rutledge, and our Urologists and Radiation Oncologists colleagues at the QEII, to assess a feasibility patient empowerment program for men diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. We tested a protocol which consisted of a 28-day home-based program following very specific instruction on pelvic floor, aerobic and muscle strength exercise following the recommendation of the American College of Sports Medicine for cancer patients, lifestyle, diet, meditation/mindfulness exercises, and social connection. The results of this study are currently being analysed and disseminated. One manuscript discussing some of the results was recently published in the International Journal of Mental Health & Addiction entitled “Development and Initial Evaluation of a Multifaceted Intervention to Improve Mental Health and Quality of Life Among Prostate Cancer Survivors” and can be found here: IJMHA Publication.
